5 Things to Do Before Moving Day

Moving to a new home is an exciting concept, but the process itself is lengthy.  Without proper preparation, an experience that should be fun and rewarding becomes unnecessarily stressful.  To avoid inconveniencing yourself and your movers on the day that you plan to move in, follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth transition.

1: Make a checklist and pack in advance
The moving process starts with deciding which things to pack and how you plan to organize your possessions.  As your expected move-in date approaches, consider what needs to be packed first.  If you’re moving in during the summer, for example, it’s safe to pack up winter clothing and Christmas decorations first.  If you don’t take inventory of your belongings and categorize your things, it’s easy to forget something or accidentally pack something you’ll need during the move.

2: Trust the experts
Movers have certain tried-and-true techniques they tend to use for packing, loading and storage.  They are being paid to do so, after all; this is their job, and they’ve been trained to perform it with quality.  So don’t worry.  You don’t need to be concerned over the state of your belongings, and you don’t need to ride with the movers in the van.

3: Prepare for the movers
Take photos of your belongings before the movers get there so you know (and can prove) what condition they were in prior to the move. These photos will also help you assemble the floor plan for your new home.  In addition, when moving day arrives, you’ll be ready with your inventory and be able to compare it to the same list that you receive from the movers.

4: Check the number’s license number, and think of questions to ask movers about the specifics of your move.
Such as, “do you charge extra for going up flights flight of stairs or elevators?  Go over the estimates from your moving company in Gainesville Florida and check all costs, which should be personalized especially for your move.

5: Make sure there’s parking for the truck
When the moving van or truck arrives at the new place, it will need a place to park and unload.  This sounds simple, but can lead to complications if parking arrangements aren’t made beforehand. For example, if you’re moving into a house, check with the homeowner’s association to make sure there are no regulations against trucks parked in the street.  If you’re moving into an apartment complex, you may need to set up a place ahead of time for the van or truck.  You may also need to reserve an elevator.  This should be set up beforehand, so the movers can carry things in as quickly as possible when they arrive.
